Alexis Thompson, 14, tied for LPGA lead

Ninth-grader Alexis Thompson shot a three-under-par 69 on Friday for a share of the lead with top-ranked Lorena Ochoa and three others after the second round of the Navistar LPGA Classic at Prattville, Ala.

The 14-year-old Thompson, from Coral Springs, Fla., is trying to become youngest winner in LPGA Tour history. Marlene Hagge won the 1952 Sarasota Open 14 days after her 18th birthday and took the Bakersfield Open two months later, but both were 18-hole events. Paula Creamer won the 2005 Sybase Classic at 18 years 9 months to become the youngest winner of a full tournament.

“I mean, I can say I’m really mature for 14,” Thompson said. “I would definitely say that. But, I mean, I don’t know. I just play golf every day. I mean, I’m young. That’s the only difference.”

Ochoa (68), Laura Davies (65), Yani Tseng (63) and Giulia Sergas (65) matched Thompson at 10-under 134.

Tom Watson shot a bogey-free 68 in windy conditions to take a two-stroke lead at the halfway point of the Senior Players Championship at Timonium, Md. . . . Vaughn Taylor shot his second straight five-under 67 to take a one-stroke lead over three players at the Turning Stone Resort Championship in Verona, N.Y. Matt Kuchar (68), rookie Leif Olson (69) and Nicholas Thompson (67), older brother of Alexis, are tied for second.

Forbes says Tiger Woods has become the first athlete to surpass $1 billion in career earnings. The magazine estimates that golf’s top-ranked player crested the plateau when he earned $10 million for winning the FedEx Cup on Sunday. . . . Just 15 months after they were married, golf star Greg Norman and tennis great Chris Evert announced they have separated.

Markov to sit out for four months

Montreal Canadiens All-Star defenseman Andrei Markov will be out for at least four months after a tendon in his ankle was sliced.

The team said Markov had surgery in a Toronto hospital. He was injured when Maple Leafs goaltender Carey Price caught the Russian with his skate during Montreal’s 4-3 overtime victory on Thursday.

Man arrested in Andrews case

A man has been arrested in Chicago on federal charges of stalking an ESPN reporter, surreptitiously taking nude videos of her in a hotel room and posting the videos online after trying to sell them to celebrity website TMZ.com.

FBI officials in Los Angeles, where the charges were filed, say 48-year-old Michael Barrett of Westmont, Ill., was arrested at O’Hare Airport.

Barrett is charged with interstate stalking to harass, intimidate and cause emotional distress to the victim, ESPN reporter Erin Andrews, who was identified in the complaint as E.A.

A Las Vegas judge issued an arrest warrant for Roger Mayweather after the boxing trainer failed to show up for a court appearance on battery and coercion charges. . . . Suspended NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield is turning to high-profile attorney Mark Geragos to help fight his drug suspension. Mayfield has been suspended since failing a May 1 drug test.

Jankovic retires, Sharapova wins

Maria Sharapova won her first tournament since returning from a 10-month injury layoff when Jelena Jankovic retired because of an arm injury in the first set of the Toray Pan Pacific final at Tokyo.

Sharapova was up 5-2 today when Jankovic took a timeout to have her right arm examined by the trainer. Jankovic returned to the court and lost the first two points of the eighth game before retiring.
