Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor said she regrets that the current court is dismantling some of the opinions she helped craft as a moderate conservative, USA Today reported.
During a panel discussion at William and Mary Law School in Williamsburg on Saturday, O’Connor, 79, was asked how she felt about the court’s retreat. She replied, “What would you feel? I’d be a little bit disappointed. If you think you’ve been helpful, and then it’s dismantled, you think, ‘Oh, dear.’ But life goes on. It’s not always positive.”
O’Connor, appointed by President Reagan in 1981, retired in 2006. Since then, the court has backed away from previous rulings on abortion rights and campaign finance, among others.
