Re “DWP rate hike sent back to drawing board,” Sept. 3

I applaud the DWP for trying to do the right thing by raising rates in order to pay for cleaner renewable energy. For too long, the DWP has imported much of its energy from filthy coal-burning plants out of state, poisoning other people’s air so its customers could have low-cost electricity. This is patently unfair.

Councilwoman Jan Perry was quoted as saying that “we need to come up with an equitable way” to reach our renewable energy goals.

She should clarify what she means by “equitable,” because passing on the true cost of dirty energy to those who are either wealthy or wasteful, while protecting those who are poor or who conserve energy, is as equitable as you can get.
