Previews by Ann Powers (A.P.) and August Brown (A.B.) Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival This year’s festival might have a mogul -- rap patriarch Jay-Z -- on the marquee, but the lineup is still a model for recessionary times. Nothing on the roster announced for Sunday feels like a coup or a matter of huge debate. There’s no baby boomer icon to fluster Generation X purists, and no surprise post-punk reunion (Pavement announced its reformation last fall) to fulfill the dreams of the same crowd. What Coachella 2010 does offer is a well-curated midrange that will more than satisfy the iPod aesthetes who make up the festival’s core audience. Empire Polo Field, Empire Polo Field, Indio. (A.P.) Sun., 11 a.m. $269.

Pat Metheny With his new project, the jazz guitar virtuoso takes command of an antiquated bit of gadgetry called Ochestrion, which resembles a threaded piano but can conjure a world of bizarre sounds that, in the hands of a master arranger like Metheny, will seem as enticing as they are unprecedented.(A.B.) Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S. Grand Ave., L.A. Mon., 8 p.m. $42-$115. (323) 850-2000.

Hole Better known as a tabloid disaster and a brilliant, outre pugilist taking on all comers -- journalists, other celebrities, sometimes her own friends and family -- Courtney Love was also once the artist whose music expressed unacceptable female rage and hunger and in doing so motivated many young women to see and risk new things. (A.P.) Music Box @ Fonda, 6126 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood. Thu.-Fri., 8 p.m. $32.50. (213) 480-3232.

Norah Jones The jazz-pop chanteuse tried to shed her easygoing Starbucksian reputation by collaborating with a number of noted indie rock songwriters on “The Fall.” She didn’t quite get there, but another turn with her effortlessly charming voice and nimble playing is always welcome. (A.B.) Orpheum Theatre, 842 S. Broadway, L.A. Fri., 8 p.m. $45-$60. (877) 677-4386.

Stagecoach Festival The “country Coachella” compendium again kicks toward today’s Nashville with headliners including the pop-friendly Keith Urban, Toby Keith, Sugarland and Brooks & Dunn. But come early for the swagger of Jason Aldean and the pristine harmonies of the Avett Brothers.(A.B.) Empire Polo Field, Empire Polo Field, Indio. Sat.-next Sun., 11 a.m. $99-$149.
