Paris Hilton and Cy Waits mug shotsAn attorney for Paris Hilton and her boyfriend -- who were arrested in Las Vegas late Friday -- urged the public not to rush to judge the pair.

Hilton and Cy Waits, in a Cadillac Escalade, were pulled over by Las Vegas police, who said they smelled marijuana. Officers found a small amount of cocaine inside Hilton’s purse, police said at a press conference Saturday.

Hilton flew back to her home in Los Angeles and has not made a comment. Her attorney, David Chesnoff, released a statement urging people not to make a “rush to judgment.”

“This matter will be dealt with in the courts, not in the media, and I encourage people not to rush to judgment until all of the facts have been dealt with in a court of law,” he said in the statement.

Waits’ attorney suggested to the Associated Press that there was evidence that would prove the pair were innocent.

“As the case proceeds, a lot of facts are going to come to light that will ultimately lead to exoneration,” Richard Schonfeld said.
