Portland Pirate Festival
When, where: Sept. 18 and 19, Cathedral Park
Highlights: This celebration of maritime troublemakers will attempt to claim the Guinness record for the largest gathering of pirates. The event’s eclectic offerings include a mustache competition, costumed reenactments, historical attractions, juggling, puppetry, a merchant market and ethnic foods.
