Update: UCLA Coach Ben Howland listed his team’s defense as his top concern with 2½ weeks remaining before the start of Pacific 10 Conference play. Opponents are beating UCLA off the dribble far too often and the Bruins are having trouble staying in front of small, quick guards. UC Davis’ Princeton-style offense will test UCLA’s defensive patience and ability to foil a precision passing game. The Aggies haven’t played much zone defense this season, but Howland said he expects UC Davis to use some zone in what he called “a tougher matchup” than the Bruins faced in Cal Poly.
