Vera Jimenez, who has been KCBS-TV’s morning traffic reporter, will begin a new stint Jan. 25 as the evening weather anchor for KTLA-TV.

Jimenez, who left KCBS and sister station KCAL last week after six years, will report on weather and traffic for KTLA’s 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. newscasts, and weather for the 10 p.m. newscasts.

“I’m really excited -- I’ll get to see how normal people live,” Jimenez quipped in an interview Wednesday. “I’ve been working mornings for so long.”

KTLA News Director Jason R. Ball praised Jimenez, calling her a valuable addition to the station, which, like The Times, is owned by Tribune. “Vera knows traffic and weather better than anyone else in the marketplace,” he said.

Jimenez said she has been preparing for her new job, studying weather patterns for stormy weather expected to hit Los Angeles next week.

Said Jimenez, “I’ve been studying the National Weather Service reports, looking at high surf advisories. I really want to be on top of what’s going on.”

Although she was originally hired as a traffic reporter at KCBS, she often filled in on weather reports during morning and early afternoon newscasts.

In addition to her on-camera duties, Jimenez will also blog about weather and local activities.

Said Jimenez, who ran the Los Angeles marathon in 2008, “There’s always interesting things to see and do around here, and I want to let people know about them.”
