His American hits include the “Rush Hour” franchise with Chris Tucker, “Shanghai Noon” and “Shanghai Knights” with Owen Wilson, “The Forbidden Kingdom” with Jet Li, and his 1996 stateside breakthrough, “Rumble in the Bronx.” He voiced Monkey in “Kung Fu Panda” and appeared in both “Cannonball Run” movies, which are said to have inspired his inclusion of bloopers in his films’ credits. He’s proudest of his classic Hong Kong films “Police Story,” “Drunken Master II” and “Project A,” which he also directed: “I want people . . . to see the real action.
