When, where: Feb. 11-14, Imperial Valley College plus various field locations

Highlights: See as many as 100 bird species a day at the Salton Sea and the Pacific Flyway. Events include a marsh bird symposium, expert-led tours, seminars, workshops and a learning area for children.

Tribal Arts Weekend

When, where: Feb. 12-14, Marin Civic Center and the Embassy Suites in San Rafael

Highlights: The 26th annual Marin Show: Art of the Americas has joined with the Tribal Arts Weekend to showcase and sell indigenous antique and contemporary art, including pottery, textiles, sculpture, jewelry, beadwork, baskets, paintings and photography. Lectures and panel discussions are also on the schedule.

Civil War Reenactment

When, where: Feb. 13-15, Calico Ghost Town

Highlights: The hills of Calico Ghost Town come alive with costumed actors reenacting the Civil War’s famous battles. Onlookers will see drills and cannon fire, interact with “commanders,” hear live music of that era, take in a period-piece fashion show and watch an Abe Lincoln doppelgänger give the Gettysburg Address.

Cost: Feb. 13 and 14, $10; $5 for ages 6 to 15; free for ages 5 and younger. Feb. 15, $10 per car.
