Peter D. Ward The paleontologist and author of “The Flooded Earth: Our Future in a World Without Ice Caps” outlines a global future in which sea levels have risen, redrawing the world’s coastlines by 2050, where the Miami of 2120 is an anarchic island nation, where shipments of Midwest topsoil are delivered to one of the last agriculturally viable regions — the “Antarctic Freehold State” of 2515. Aloud at Central Library presents Ward in conversation with Times staff writer Margot Roosevelt. Richard J. Riordan Central Library, 630 W. 5th St., L.A. 7 p.m. Free. (213) 228-7025. https://www.aloudla.org.

MOVIES

Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait Amid the global frenzy of the World Cup, the Hammer screens this game-in-the-life documentary, in which 17 cameras track French soccer star Zinédine Zidane’s every sprint, kick, shove and breath during a 2005 match. The Scottish post-rock band Mogwai provided the film’s soundtrack. Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd., L.A. 7 p.m. Free. (310) 443-7000. https://www.hammer.ucla.edu.

POP MUSIC

Fol Chen Highland Park’s most intriguing indie export recently released its second installment of mind-bending, atmospheric and unexpectedly menacing experimental rock. The melodies are pure pop; the productions are whip-smart and inventive takes on electro and screwy guitar work, but the unnerving element comes from the band’s cryptic lyrics and intriguingly standoffish presence. The Echo, 1822 Sunset Blvd., L.A. 8 p.m. $10. https://www.attheecho.com.
