X Games Extreme athletes will perform across four venues in downtown Los Angeles, competing in categories such as Moto X Freestyle, BMX Vert, Moto X Speed & Style and BMX Park. Top-tier athletes from the United States are competing, along with some international athletes, all unafraid of face-planting from the lip of a giant vertical ramp. Event Deck at L.A. Live, Staples Center, Nokia Theatre and Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Friday through Sunday. $9-$40. https://www.espn.go.com/.

POP MUSIC

Sergio Mendes In the annals of Brazil’s tropicalia music, there is Sergio Mendes, and there are Sergio Mendes acolytes. His rhythmically tricky, melodically rich compositions defined the genre in his home country yet also proved a fertile base for pop and jazz crossovers. Here he plays with the similarly cosmopolitan, tropics-infused Morcheeba. Hollywood Bowl, 2031 N. Highland Ave., L.A. 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. $30-$156. https://www.hollywoodbowl.com.

MOVIES

American Cinematheque In a celebration of some of the greatest moments in rock history on film, the American Cinematheque holds a rock documentary fest, including D.A. Pennebaker’s “Monterey Pop,” Mel Stuart’s “Wattstax” and the director’s cut of Michael Wadleigh’s “Woodstock.” Aero Theatre, 1328 Montana Ave., Santa Monica. 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
