MOVIES

Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival OK, so touting your own film festival for a blog named “Hero Complex” is a bit rich. But with the slate of directors and actors set to appear, not even kryptonite should keep you away from the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival. Christopher Nolan and Ridley Scott will each present and discuss their classic works of sci-fi and noir with our own professional fanboy, Geoff Boucher. Mann Chinese 6, 6801 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood. Sat.-Sun. Prices and times vary, check events.latimes.com/herocomplexfilmfest/ for full listings.

“Cremaster Cycle” Sculptor and performance artist Matthew Barney’s epic five-part “Cremaster Cycle” will have an exclusive one-week engagement. Nuart Theatre, 11272 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica. 1:30, 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. Sat.; 2, 5:20 and 8:15 p.m. Sun. and Tue.; 2:30, 6:30 and 10 p.m. Mon. and Wed. General admission, $10.50, bargain matinees, $8. (310) 281-8223. https://www.landmarktheatres.com.

MUSIC

Playboy Jazz Festival There is no shortage of summertime music festivals with trendy bookings to lure in the kids, but the Playboy Jazz Festival, now in its 32nd year, is into mellow longevity, not eye-popping spectacle. This year’s proceedings will offer the Chick Corea Freedom Band, Kurt Elling, the Pete Escovedo Orchestra, Jake Shimabukuro and other practitioners of jazz in a range of styles, including standards, blues, Latin and world fusion, all of which, we hear, will go down smoothly with a glass of Pinot Grigio. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Ave. $20-$150. 2:30 p.m. Sat., 2 p.m. Sun. (323) 850-2000.

EVENTS

L.A. Pride Festival From its humble beginnings 40 years ago, the L.A. Pride Festival has grown into one of the nation’s premier gay-pride events, attracting thousands to celebrate community and equality. In addition to raising social and political awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues, the festival offers live music, dancing, food and drink, and exhibitors. Sunday’s parade runs along Santa Monica Boulevard and ends at the festival site, where a one-minute silent celebration will be held. West Hollywood Park, 647 N. San Vicente Blvd., West Hollywood. Noon-11 p.m. Sat., 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sun. $20 per day. (323) 969-8302. https://www.lapride.org.

“Weekend at the Hammer” As part of its citywide festival bringing dance film to Los Angeles every June, Dance Camera West presents “Weekend at the Hammer,” three programs over two days. On Saturday afternoon, two films tell the story of Pina Bausch, a modern dance phenomenon. The evening’s documentary, “Dancing Dreams,” explores what happens when 40 teens rehearse a performance of Bausch’s piece “Kontakthof (Comfort Zone).” On Sunday, the festival will switch gears, showing six award-winning short films of dance. Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd. 4:30 and 7 p.m. Sat., 7 p.m. Sun. Free. (213) 480-8633. https://www.dancecamerawest.com.

STAGE

Henry Rollins Time may have softened the edges of the punk rock icon’s aggro stance at the mike — gone are the days of club riots, LAPD raids and endless van hauls across the country — yet Henry Rollins still seethes with a bemused intensity and an endless flow of words and opinions on seemingly everything under the sun, from RuPaul to BP to Bad Brains. Rollins’ Frequent Flyer Tour touches down at Largo at the Coronet, 336 N. La Cienega Blvd., L.A. Sat.-Sun. 8:30 p.m. $15. (310) 855-0350. https://www.largo-la.com.
