AT THE PLATE: Howie Kendrick hit a two-run double, and Brandon Wood and Torii Hunter each hit run-scoring singles in the Angels’ four-run fourth inning. Hideki Matsui drew two walks, Wood had two hits and Bobby Abreu hit a run-scoring single in the third.

ON THE MOUND: Reliever Fernando Rodney, appearing in consecutive games for the first time this spring, walked three of the five batters he faced and gave up an infield single before being pulled in the sixth inning. He was charged with four runs. Reliever Brian Stokes gave up a run and three hits in the seventh.

EXTRA BASES: Speedy leadoff batter Erick Aybar scored from first base on Abreu’s third-inning single to right-center field. Shortstop Anderson Hernandez took the throw from the outfield expecting a play at second base and had no play at home on Aybar, who never slowed around third base.

UP NEXT: Joel Pineiro is scheduled to start against Brian Bannister in a 1 p.m. split-squad game against Kansas City in Tempe, Ariz. Anthony Ortega will start against John Danks in a 7 p.m. split-squad game against the Chicago White Sox in Glendale, Ariz.
