Five questions for … Jason Bateman

Everyone wants to know: What’s Jennifer Aniston really like?

She’s just really easy. She doesn’t really grind on the set. Some actors, their process is a bit more involved and they really try to work hard at acting. But it comes naturally to her. You rarely catch her acting.

You were a child star, why do you think so many kid actors have problems later in life?

You grow up fast. I can remember trying to accelerate my ability to be professional or deliver the goods. At a time when kids at that age are really just thinking about executing their homework properly or putting the soccer ball in the net, you have a different set of pressures.

There are a lot of movies about artificial insemination coming out right now — why do you think that is?

Perhaps it’s just a general age of people starting families later and later. Because we’re such a work-oriented society, perhaps couples are putting off starting a family until later in their life, and the later you go, the more difficult it is to get pregnant and you have to explore other opportunities.

You’re in everything. Are you the hardest-working actor in Hollywood?

I do like to constantly be working, but last year was a bit of an anomaly in that I was included in some really great projects in small roles that I would have been foolish to say no to. Maybe it seemed like I was working constantly, but I think it was just more of a distribution anomaly.

What’s up with the “ Arrested Development” movie? Your former costar David Cross says it’s dead.

David says that it’s dead, but it’s not dead at all. [Show creator] Mitch Hurwitz is busy shooting a new pilot with Will Arnett, and perhaps when they’re done shooting and editing and he’s delivered that, perhaps he’ll jump into writing the script. Once the script is done, it goes to the studio and they decide if it’s a script they want to make, and the actors will decide if they want to be in it. It’s a long process. But it could happen, and it’s still in everybody’s plans for it to happen.
