Scott Podsednik pondering contract with Dodgers

Share

Scott Podsednik is facing a Thursday deadline to decide whether to exercise his half of a mutual option that would keep him with the Dodgers for another season. The Dodgers on Tuesday exercised their part of the $2-million option.

Podsednik, who was acquired from the Kansas City Royals in late July, replaced Manny Ramirez as the Dodgers’ starting left fielder in the second half of the season. Podsednik’s arrival cleared the way for the Dodgers to let Ramirez go to the Chicago White Sox on a waiver claim.

Podsednik hit .297, stole 35 bases and scored 63 runs over the season. He hit .262 and stole five bases in 39 games with the Dodgers.

Podsednik’s last venture into the free-agent market was a frustrating one. He hit .304 and stole 30 bases for the White Sox in 2009, but ended up signing with the Royals for a deal that was guaranteed for only one year and $1.75 million.
