Publican: Five good beers for five weekend games.

Share

With the sorry state of football in the Golden State this year (except for Stanford), you might need a beer or three to get through this weekend’s games. Joshua Lurie of FoodGPS.com helped us pick five of the best beers on local taps. (Note: No guarantees these bars will be showing these particular games.)

1. USC - Notre Dame

USC fans are still bitter about Reggie Bush having to return his Heisman, so grab a hopped-up Ballast Point Sculpin India Pale Ale at the Library Alehouse in order to feel the pain. 2911 Main St., Santa Monica, (310) 314-4855.

2. UCLA - Arizona State

Sure, UCLA may be giving up 28 points a game, but fans can grab a rich, chocolatey Stone Brewing Belgo Stout at Tony’s Darts Away and and then just imagine the team playing a stouter D. Well, you can imagine. 1710 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, (818) 253-1710.

3. Chargers - Colts

For this matchup of MVP candidates, grab a post-game pint of hoppy Monkey See Monkey Do, a double IPA from Pasadena’s Craftsman Brewing at The Golden State and see if Phillip Rivers can pull off his Peyton Manning impersonation. 426 N. Fairfax Ave., L.A., (323) 782-8331.

4. Raiders - Dolphins

The Raiders may have gotten destroyed by the Steelers last weekend, but with five wins already this year it’s been a sweet season for fans, who should head to the York after the game for a draught of Lagunitas’ malty, very drinkable Brown Shugga ale. 5018 York Blvd., L.A., (323) 255-9675.

5. 49ers - Cardinals

In order to sit through this matchup of disappointing, tied-for-last-place teams, you’ll need something strong, like a few pre-game pints of the 10% alcohol-by-volume Moylan’s Ryan Sullivan’s Imperial Stout available on tap at the Blue Palms Brewhouse. Or, maybe just go straight to whiskey. 6126 Hollywood Blvd., L.A., (323) 464-2337.
