Memory of boy’s smile inspires grieving parents to help hundreds of other children

Sean Denlinger’s life has had a profound effect on others, though it’s not the life his parents had envisioned.

A South Florida Sun Sentinel story describes what happened: “Sean Denlinger was 3 when he died in 2002, a year after something went wrong during a procedure to change his feeding tube at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood [Fla.]. He was born with a genetic disorder that should not have shortened his life, the Denlingers and court documents say.”

In their grief, Sean’s parents were guided by the memory of his smile -- and they were determined to make his short life have a positive effect on other children.
