Update: Despite struggling in league play this season, Chivas USA is only two victories away from winning the first tournament in the club’s six-year history. Chivas is 2-0-2 against the Sounders in MLS play and has not given up a goal. But Seattle twice knocked Chivas out of the Open Cup, 3-1 in 2007 and 2-0 in 2008, when the Sounders played in the USL. Wednesday night’s other semifinal game is between host DC United and the Columbus Crew. If DC United wins, it would stage the Oct. 6 final. If Columbus wins, the final would be played at the Home Depot Center, if Chivas USA wins, or at Seattle.
