CHIVAS USA TONIGHT

VS. CHIVAS DE GUADALAJARA

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Petco Park, San Diego.

On the air: TV: Galavision; Radio: 690.

Update: Chivas USA takes a break from its Major League Soccer schedule to play a friendly against what used to be known as its parent club but is now regarded as just another Mexican league team, albeit a powerful one with a long and trophy-laden history. Guadalajara, coached by Jose Luis Real, features such Mexico national team players as forwards Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista and Omar Bravo, winger Omar Arellano, defender Jonny Magallon and goalkeeper Luis Michel. The Mexican team, an 11-time national champion, defeated Chivas USA, 2-0, one year ago in the first so-called ChivaClasico, in front of 22,879 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Arellano scored both goals. Tuesday night’s game, at which a similar-size crowd is expected, will be the first time Chivas USA has played in San Diego since its inaugural season in 2005, and there has been speculation that the team might like to move there once its lease with the Home Depot Center expires. Chivas USA returns to MLS play on Sunday at 5 p.m. against the Kansas City Wizards in Carson.
