Bruno Mars shoots to top of UK singles chart

Reuters -- Bruno Mars stormed to the top of the United Kingdom single charts with his solo debut “Just The Way You Are (Amazing)” on Sunday, while veteran Phil Collins clinched his first number one album in 12 years.

Mars, who has previously topped the charts with “Nothing On You”, draws on reggae, rock, folk and R&B influences on his new hit single, selling almost double that of his nearest rival, the Official Charts Company said.

The second and third places remain unchanged, with Taio Cruz at number two with “Dynamite”, followed by Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”.

The two new Top 10 entries were Emma’s Imagination, in at number seven with “This Day” and Alex Gaudino with “I’m In Love (I Wanna Do It)” which charts at number 10.

In the album chart former Genesis star Collins hit the top spot with “Going Back” -- a collection of Motown and Soul covers -- his first studio album in eight years and after only its second week of release.

Collins, whose musical career spans four decades, eight Grammy Awards and 250 million album sales, if you count his work with Genesis, beat alternative rockers the Manic Street Preachers.

The Welsh band’s “Postcards From A Young Man” was pushed into third place by The Script’s “Science & Faith”, last Sunday’s number one.
