Get a cultural fix with L.A.’s ‘Discover the Arts’ discounts

Let your inner artist soar—and save some money too—with “Discover the Arts in L.A,” a get-acquainted-with-Los Angeles program that runs through April 30 in the City of Angels and nearby cities.

Now in its third year, the program offers discounts at more than 30 cultural institutions, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Getty Center in Los Angeles and Getty Villa in Malibu, the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach and the Norton Simon Museum of Art in Pasadena.

Participating venues are giving deals such as two-for-one general admission, free gifts and services and discounts up to half off regular prices.

Besides the savings, the program encourages people “to explore a museum or performing arts institutions that they’ve never visited before,” said Michael McDowell, senior director for cultural tourism at the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau, known as LA Inc.

Last year, more than 68,000 people downloaded discount coupons for museums and other cultural attractions during the program’s three-month run, McDowell said.

“Discover the Arts,” created by LA Inc.and Wells Fargo, also includes hotel specials.

Below is a sampling of the offers. Blackout dates apply; check specific venues for valid dates:

Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA): Two-for-one general admission.

Getty Center and Getty Villa: 20% museum store discount.

Aquarium of the Pacific: $5 off adult admission, $2 off child admission.

Norton Simon Museum: Two-for-one admission.

Grammy Museum at L.A. Live: Buy one ticket, get one free; 15% discount at museum store.
