Amgen Inc. on Thursday said its chief financial officer, Jonathan M. Peacock, would leave the Thousand Oaks-based biotech company to pursue “broader career opportunities.” The change is effective Friday.

“Since joining Amgen over three years ago, Jon has played an important role in developing and implementing the company’s strategy for growth and in delivering value for shareholders,” said Robert Bradway, Amgen’s chief executive.

Amgen has appointed Michael A. Kelly as acting CFO, the company said in a statement.

Peacock, who started working at Amgen in 2010, is expected to stay on with the company until May to assist with the transition and will receive a lump sum in severance of 1.5 times his salary, according to a Thursday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. His 2012 salary was $882,000.

An Amgen spokesman said Peacock has not accepted a position elsewhere.
