Lenovo announces ThinkPad Tablet 2, a Windows 8 device
Lenovo announced the 10.1-inch screen ThinkPad Tablet 2 this week, its first Windows 8 tablet.
The Chinese company revealed the device Wednesday. It will compete with Microsoft’s own Surface device for users who are seeking a Windows 8 tablet.
The Verge reported the details, which were announced at an event in New York City. The ThinkPad Tablet 2 is just 9.8 millimeters thick and weighs 1.3 pounds.
The tablet has a 1,366-by-768 pixel display, and Lenovo says it has 10 hours of battery life.
The ThinkPad Tablet 2 is “the tablet the industry has been waiting for,” the company said, according to the Verge.
That might not be the case though, as it doesn’t appear the tablet has a front- or back-facing camera.
[Update, 11:23 a.m. Aug. 11: A spokeswoman from Lenovo has said the ThinkPad Tablet 2 will have two cameras. It has a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8 megapixel back-facing camera that shoots 720p HD and has an LED flash.]
It does, however, have a full-size USB port and it can be equipped with an option pen, keyboard and dock.
One thing that could set it apart from the Surface is the ThinkPad Tablet 2 will be able to run 3G and LTE, which has not been announced for the Microsoft-developed tablet. The ThinkPad Tablet 2 will come in Wi-Fi, 3G and AT&T; LTE models, according to the Verge.
No pricing has been revealed for the tablet yet, but Lenovo says it will come out with the launch of Windows 8, on its website.
