A Back to the Future Delorean Time Machine Lego set? Yes please!

Lego has announced that it will start to put a new Lego set featuring the Delorean time machine, a Lego Doc, and a Lego Marty McFly on a hover board, into production in the next year.

Exact timing and pricing are not currently available, but hopefully you just got plenty of Christmas goodies to keep you occupied while you wait.

The Delorean Time Machine set came out of the Lego CUUSOO website, where Lego enthusiasts are invited to submit ideas for new Lego sets. If the idea gets 10,000 votes, Lego will take a serious look at it and see if it can put it into production.

Not every idea that gets 10,000 votes will get turned into a set, of course. Lego has to consider whether the idea fits with the company’s brand, if the model is easy enough to build and fun to play with, and if it has good market potential, among other concerns.

The “Back to the Future” set, designed by Japanese creative director Masashi Togami, and built by Sakureto, fit the bill.

And to make this story even sweeter, Togami says that Michael J. Fox is his hero and that he will donate his 1% royalty fee to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Lego is now reviewing the next set of ideas on the Lego CUUSOO website including the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity project, the UCS Sandcrawler and the Thinking With Portals Project.
