Nokia apologizes for faking shots in Lumia 920 camera phone ad
An ad for a new Nokia Corp. smartphone shows off the device’s amazing ability to stabilize a video shot under rocky conditions.
Except the images shown in the ad were faked.
The ad is for the Lumia 920, the company’s upcoming flagship phone with a technology called PureView. It’s supposed to stabilize hand-held video and shoot better pictures at night.
The ad, which can be viewed on YouTube, shows a man and a woman riding bikes, with the man supposedly shooting video with the Lumia 920.
Parts of the ad that were staged to look like they were shot by the phone were not, according to tech news site The Verge. On Wednesday, the site said it noticed a little something extra in the background of the ad.
About 30 seconds into it, the woman passes a window. A still frame from that segment, as shown on The Verge, shows a reflection in the window of what appears to be a van with a video camera much more professional than one on a camera phone.
Nokia quickly confirmed that the ad was not shot with the Lumia 920 and apologized.
“We should have posted a disclaimer,” the company said in a blog post. “This was not shot with a Lumia 920. At least, not yet. We apologize for the confusion we created.”
Nokia updated the ad on YouTube and a blog post to insert disclaimers.
