Professional baseball player Barry Zito, who announced his retirement in October after 14 seasons with the Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants, has sold a home in Southwest Pasadena for $1.495 million.

The traditional-style cottage on a corner lot was built in 1951 and has been freshened with neutral tones, large picture windows and plantation shutters. Custom built-ins, glazed brick floors and tongue-and-groove ceilings are among the other interior details.

A living room with a fireplace, a dining room, a den, an eat-in kitchen, three bedrooms and two bathrooms are within the mostly white-walled 2,200 square feet of space.

Floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows center on a brick-lined patio, set off by tall privacy hedges and mature gardens. Elsewhere on the more than quarter-acre property is an attached two-car garage.

The house came to market in May for $1,612,500 and was more recently priced at $1.549 million. Zito paid $1.4 million for the home in 2007, public records show.

Nadine Danz of Sotheby’s International Realty was the listing agent. Beatrice Harendza of Re/Max Tri-City Realty represented the buyer.

Zito, 37, spent the entirety of career in the Bay Area with the Athletics and Giants, compiling a 165-143 record during that time. An American League Cy Young Award and a pair of World Series titles count among his career highlights.

With another home sale under his belt, Zito has now divested himself of four properties over the last 11 months. In December, he parted ways with a contemporary-style home in Hollywood Hills West for $3.375 million and in January sold a house in the Bird Streets area for $2.875 million.

His hillside estate in Kentfield sold in August for $8.15 million.
