Rachel Ashwell’s signature slipcovers are on full display at Brentwood lease house

The fact that the interiors of this Colonial-style house in Brentwood have a “shabby chic edge,” as the lease listing states, is more than happenstance. The $25,000-a-month rental includes a celebrity owner — author, designer and entrepreneur Rachel Ashwell — who literally wrote the book “Shabby Chic.”

Yes, that explains all those slipcovers in the interior photos. Ashwell has owned the property since 2007, when she bought the two-story house for $4.15 million.

Set near the Santa Monica coastline, the 1931 home is entered through gardens planted with lavender, roses and herbs. The inside, studded with beaded chandeliers, features an open-plan living room, a dining room that can seat eight and a media room. The 3,276 square feet of living space also include five bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Glass veranda doors open onto the garden. A balcony off the master suite overlooks the saline swimming pool and spa. There’s an attached garage.

Ashwell, 59, moved to L.A. from London, opened a home furnishings store in Santa Monica in 1989 and filled it with flea-market finds. The trend-setter went on to host the show “Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic” from 1999 to 2003 and has written numerous books.

Carey More of PLG Estates is the listing agent.
