This year’s best photos taken via drone

The winners are out in a new contest to determine the year’s best aerial photos taken by drone.

Dronestagram, which showcases pictures and videos captured via drone, paired up with National Geographic for the competition.

Some of the images -- most taken with GoPro cameras -- are spectacular, and they impart the sense of a virtually impossible point of view.

An eagle flies over an Indonesian national park, and the detail is such that you see the notches in the feathers of its spread wings. A sunset image has you hanging over Annecy, France. And a photo of happy Filipinos with uplifted faces makes you feel as though you’re hovering above the crowd.
