Obama overheard: ‘They don’t use Facebook anymore’

How unpopular has Facebook become among teenagers and young adults? So much so that even the president knows.

President Obama recently sat down with a handful of young adults to talk about how the administration can get more 18-to-34-year-olds to sign for coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

At the restaurant where they met was Atlantic writer Robinson Meyer, who was within earshot of the president’s conversation with the group.

Meyer, who recounted the event Tuesday, said the highlight of the experience was overhearing Obama talk about tech. The president mentioned Snapchat. Someone mentioned Instagram.

And then Obama said, “It seems like they don’t use Facebook anymore.”

Meyer isn’t sure who “they” is, but based on what the conversation is about, he’s pretty sure Obama meant teenagers and young adults. A White House representative told Meyer that Obama was probably referring to the 18-to-34-year-old demographic he was at the lunch meeting to talk about.
