Calendar Live Named Best Online Newspaper Entertainment Section
Calendar Live was named the Best Entertainment Section in an Online Newspaper Service in the 1999 EPpy Awards Competition. The EPpy Awards identify and honor the best work done by the newspaper industry in online publishing. Editor and Publisher Interactive, the new media division of Editor and Publisher Co., sponsors the awards. Nearly 400 entries were submitted for this year's EPpy Awards. Thirty judges have been evaluating the services since mid-November 1998.

With a web site of your own, you can do the following:
  • Profit from the strength of latimes.com, the parent site of Calendar Live and the most popular local news and information site in Southern California.
  • Benefit from Calendar Live promotion online, in the paper, outdoors and over the airwaves.
  • Drive traffic to your current web site.

Banner Advertising
Banner ads on Calendar Live provide a link to your web site or your web infomercial (see below). In order to optimize your banner campaign, we work with you to track your ad's performance and target the most promising users. Banner placement can either be targeted by category or displayed throughout the site.

Web Infomercials
Web infomercials are dynamic sites that narrowcast your Calendar Live advertising and target your message to the Southern California marketplace. They consist of bridge pages containing features such as interactive games, contests, Times-generated advertorial, virtual reality, audio and video -- all designed to enhance your presence and the level of interaction between your company and your potential customers. Woven throughout your web infomercial are exact location links, which guide users to specific areas of your corporate site for further information, customer service or transactions.

Exclusive Category Sponsorship
Sponsorships allow you to brand a Calendar Live content area of your choice with a banner and infomercial campaign. Your banner is anchored on the front page of an area such as Theater, Music, Family, Night Life or Restaurants. The package includes:
  • a minimum 100,000 impressions per month
  • an anchor ad on front page of selected category
  • exclusivity among your competitors within your selected category
  • 50 hours of custom HTML development for an infomercial (additional development quoted)
  • free performance reports and data gathering
  • print advertising tie-ins for multi-level campaigns

Specifications and Terminology
Calendar Live offers one common banner size that complies with the IAB/CASIE standards. We require that all banners be 10k or less in size and in the GIF format. Java, Shockwave and animated GIFs may be used, but advertisers should be aware that not all browsers support these file types.

CPM: Cost Per Thousand (Impressions)
An impression is the delivery of an advertisement (linked banner) to a page of information requested by a Calendar Live visitor. When an ad banner appears on the screen of a Calendar Live visitor, it is called an impression.

Placement
Banner advertising within Calendar Live provides a link to your web site or locally hosted web infomercial. Flexible rotation, custom scheduling, content targeting and usage reports provide you with valuable targeting capabilities and measurable results.

Content Targeting
Targeting your advertising message to the right audience is one of the advantages of internet advertising. At Calendar Live, you can place banner advertising in related content areas that reflect the demographic profile of your targeted audience. You may also choose multiple placement options, use separate banners for each area and link each banner to separate locations within your web site or web infomercial. We track the performance of each ad, report the results to you and allow you to shift your campaign accordingly.

Run of Site (ROS)
ROS (Run of Site) refers to a collection of high traffic web pages within Calendar Live that are pre-selected and subject to change without notification. ROS advertisers choose the total number of impressions desired in advance and we place their banners within the ROS rotation until the campaign is completed.
