Natalie Portman resurrects ‘Black Swan’ in Christian Dior ad
Without a dance double in sight, Natalie Portman appeared to be using her “Black Swan” ballet training during a recent shoot for a Christian Dior fragrance ad in Paris.
The 31-year-old actress strikes pointed poses in the fountain at Jardins du Palais Royal while wearing a strapless silk couture gown that looks like a longer version of the black tutu she donned in the final scenes of “Black Swan.”
Portman trained eight hours a day and lost 20 pounds for her Oscar-winning role as a troubled prima ballerina in the 2010 film. The movie also introduced her to fiance Benjamin Millepied, who choreographed the movie. (The couple’s son, Aleph, was born last June, and the pair will reportedly wed next month in Big Sur.)
Last year, Millepied defended Portman when naysayers claimed that much of the fancy footwork in “ Black Swan” was the work of CGI and her dance double, American Ballet Theatre alum Sarah Lane. “Honestly, 85% of that movie is Natalie,” Millepied told The Times.
Millepied’s next project will be on stage rather than on screen: The former principal at New York City Ballet has partnered with composer Nico Muhly, producer Charles Fabius and others to launch L.A. Dance Project at the Los Angeles Theatre Center.
The dance collective will perform works across the city, as well as a new, site-specific piece at the Museum of Contemporary Art in July.
