‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ Broadway opening delayed nearly a month

It’s well known that real estate closings can take forever, but in the case of the Broadway revival of David Mamet’s “Glengarry Glen Ross,” starring Al Pacino as a real estate agent in a cutthroat competition to sell residential lots, it’s the opening that’s being considerably delayed.

The official opening has been pushed back nearly a month, from Sunday to Dec. 8, the New York Times reported. The show, which has been running preview performances since Oct. 19, originally had been scheduled to close its limited run in late December, but will now run through Jan. 20.

Last week, Hurricane Sandy washed away preview performances and rehearsals of the show, and producers said that they wanted to give director Daniel Sullivan and the cast plenty of time to fully hone the staging and performances before inviting opening-night reviews.

According to the Times, the chess game of when to time the reviews for maximum sales effect -- while not sharing the thunder by opening on the same night as another Broadway show -- played into the decision to skip a November opening, as did the Thanksgiving holiday.
