Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Love Never Dies’ to return to London stage

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Love Never Dies,” the sequel to his megahit “The Phantom of the Opera,” will return to the London stage.

Producers David Ian and Michael Harrison, who helmed the West End production of “The Bodyguard,” plan to stage a new production in February 2014, Playbill.com reports. No casting was announced.

The remounted production will be based on the Australian version of the show, which premiered in May 2011. The production was filmed and screened in American movie theaters, and is available on DVD.

The much-anticipated “Love Never Dies” opened to mixed reviews at London’s Adelphi Theatre in March 2010, with a cast led by Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom and Sierra Boggess as Christine.

While the reworked Australian version saw more success than its London counterpart, neither production ran more than a year.

Plans for a Broadway debut were delayed in 2011 and eventually scrapped. Some songs from the show are due to get what is being billed as their U.S. stage debut as part of a musical tribute called “The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber” that is scheduled to play the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood in June, 2014.

“Love Never Dies” picks up 10 years after “The Phantom of the Opera” left off with the infamous Phantom reigning over a Coney Island amusement park.

The score is by Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Glenn Slater and Charles Hart; book by Slater, Ben Elton and Frederick Forsyth.
