Fusion, the proposed cable channel designed to target the increasingly influential population of English-speaking Latinos, is scheduled to launch Oct. 28 with a blend of news and satire shows.

The initiative is a joint venture between ABC News and Univision Communications. The network will be programmed in English.

Inaugural shows will feature two of the Spanish-language media company Univision’s powerhouse news anchors: Jorge Ramos, the co-anchor of Univision’s network news, and León Krauze, news anchor at KMEX-TV Channel 34 in Los Angeles.

David Javerbaum, the former head writer for “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” has been hired to oversee content for Fusion’s nightly block of satire programming.

“Fusion’s unique combination of news, satire and original series is a completely new offering for the most exciting and fastest-growing group of young people in the country,” Beau Ferrari, acting president for Fusion, said in a statement.

ABC is working on carriage for the channel, which has finalized deals to be carried on several systems, including Cablevision, Charter, Cox, AT&T U-verse, Verizon FiOS and Google Fiber.

Ramos, a prominent political force in Spanish-language media, will attempt his cross over into English-language television with the network’s flagship program, “America With Jorge Ramos.” It is scheduled to run weeknights at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

“Open Source With León Krauze” is envisioned as a one-hour program at 10 p.m. to review the events of the day. Krauze, a Mexican journalist based in L.A., currently anchors KMEX’s newscasts at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The satire block will consist of at least two shows, including “Sports Bar,” a nightly sports comedy show hosted by two sports fanatics and one sports skeptic. It is set to air Monday through Thursday at 9 p.m.
