‘Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2’ tops DVD sales chart

The animated comedy “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2” ate the competition’s lunch in its home video debut.

The children’s sequel, complete with food/animal hybrids, was the top-selling DVD and Blu-ray title in its first week in release.

Featuring the voices of Bill Hader and Anna Faris, “Cloudy” was a box-office success for Sony Pictures Animation last year, generating about $265 million in worldwide ticket sales, a little less than half of which came from the U.S. and Canada.

“Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa,” the hidden-camera prank comedy from Johnny Knoxville, debuted in second place on the DVD and Blu-ray sales chart, following up on its $150-million global theatrical run.

“Last Vegas,” about a group of old friends who throw a bachelor party for the one single man among them, launched in fourth, behind the fourth season of the television series “Downton Abbey,” also in its first week. “Last Vegas” stars Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline.

The only other new movie on the sales chart was the Ron Howard racing drama “Rush,” starring Chris Hemsworth, which entered the marked at No. 6. That puts it behind “Captain Phillips,” which was the previous week’s chart-topper.

“Captain Phillips,” nominated for six Oscars including best picture, was the top rental for the second week in a row.
