TV ratings: ‘X Factor’ numbers rise from low premiere

Thursday night’s episode of Fox’s singing competition “The X Factor” got a bit of an uptick from its low premiere, which aired the previous night.

According to early numbers from Nielsen, the Simon Cowell show drew an average of 6.8 million viewers, an increase of 10% from Wednesday night’s premiere. The show garnered a rating of 2.2 in the key demographic of adults ages 18 to 49, up 5% from the first night.

However, that still represents a slide from its first Thursday episode last year. Total viewership fell 18% from last year’s premiere, which drew an audience of 8.28 million. Its 18-49 number fell 29%.

Fox was the highest rated network, with a 2.2 key demo rating and average viewership of 6.79 million.

Thursday’s episode of “Big Brother” drew an audience of 7.46 million and a rating of 2.6 among 18- to 49-year-olds, up 4% from last week. CBS’ numbers are subject to change because of the NFL game it aired in New York.

ABC had an NFL game in Boston, so its stats will also be inflated. According to the early numbers, the network’s “Wipeout” increased its demo rating 18% to 1.3. The finale of “Rookie Blue” got a 1.4 rating, up 17% from last year’s season ender.

On NBC, “The Million Second Quiz” is still sliding from its Monday debut. On Thursday night, it drew 4.2 million viewers and a demo rating of 1.1, down 27% compared with its average for Monday through Wednesday.
