The Game Developers Conference is transforming a long-running event it has held in Austin, Texas, and moving it to Los Angeles.
GDC, which holds several events around the world for video game creators, said Monday that next month’s GDC Online will be the last annual event dedicated to online gaming.
Next year, it will be changed into a conference called GDC Next that focuses on developments in such emerging game platforms and technologies as smartphones, tablets, social networks and cloud storage. GDC Next will be held Nov. 5-7, 2013, at the Los Angeles Convention Center, the same location where the annual E3 video game conference is held each June.
In addition, GDC is forming a new event, called the App Developers conference. Focused, no surprise, on the business of apps for digital devices, it will be held along with GDC Next on the same dates in the same location.
The main Game Developers Conference event is held each March in San Francisco.
GDC events are run by the business information company UBM TechWeb.
