When Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, visited the set of “Downton Abbey,” it sparked much excitement among the cast and crew. How often do pretend aristocrats get to mix with real royalty, after all?

But as it turns out, “She’s nearly as big a fan as some people in this room!” said series executive producer Gareth Naeme at a recent Envelope Screening Series presentation of the show.

“All of us were so star-struck,” he recounted, “and when I let her onto the soundstage into the servants’ hall of the show, and there was Mr. Bates standing under the bell thing, I could see in her eyes that she was as star-struck as we were.”
