Beanie Sigel, a Philadelphia rapper who has worked with Jay Z and DMX, was shot outside his New Jersey home Friday morning.

“He is out of surgery and heavily sedated,” Pleasantville Police Chief Jose Ruiz told the Los Angeles Times on Friday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 9:20 a.m. local time in Pleasantville, which is along the Jersey Shore, Ruiz said.

Sigel, whose real name is Dwight Grant, was shot at least once and maybe twice in the stomach, Ruiz said.

Police had no suspects, he said, and the investigation was ongoing.

It will be about a week before police can interview the 40-year-old about the incident because of his injuries.

In 2006, the rapper was shot while sitting in his stopped car at an intersection. Five men approached him and one opened fire, police told MTV News at the time.

Sigel has had numerous run-ins with the law throughout his career. He was recently released from prison to a halfway house after serving a two-year tax-evasion sentence, according to philly.com.
