With Chris Pratt, a GQ man of the year, coyotes haven’t got a prayer

Chris Pratt doesn’t always eat what he kills, but most of the time he does -- and it turns out he does it with grace.

Literally.

That the “Parks and Recreation” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” star has an extensive gun collection and likes to hunt is well known, but GQ’s 2014 man of the year has shared a few more details with the magazine, which features him on its December issue.

Coyotes, for example, are dispatched with glee, but they aren’t invited for dinner. Like, to be dinner.

“I do a lot of predator hunting, farm varmints, out in Wyoming,” the 35-year-old said. “Oh, my God. Get a farmer that’s just got too many and he’s like, ‘... kill as many as you want.’”

Though he skins the coyotes and tans their hides himself, wife Anna Faris isn’t thrilled when he whacks the critters.

“She’s like, ‘You’re not gonna eat it.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, I guess you’re right. I just like to kill ‘em,’” he said, explaining that coyotes are jerks -- he used a funnier word -- that will “eat your dog.”

Doves, though? Doves get very different treatment.

“Lord, thank you for these wonderful doves,” Pratt prayed as he, Faris and GQ writer Drew Magary sat down to a meal of the birds, which the actor had hunted and frozen before turning them into dove rolls stuffed with jalapeños and cream cheese.

“Thank you for this wonderful food and for this company and for our home and our life,” he continued. “We’re very grateful to be here and pray for the safety of our men and women overseas and for our families and for [Faris’ cousin] and their baby that’s coming right now, as we speak. Lord, let her be healthy and let them be happy. Amen.”

It’s all part of the drill.

“I’m sorry,” Pratt said, “but any time I kill something, before I eat it, I like to say a quick prayer -- just ‘cause we did waste this guy.”

Dave Chappelle, Ansel Elgort, Steve Carell and Michael Sam are also recognized for their achievements in 2014 and featured on GQ’s various December covers, with actress Shailene Woodley rounding out the six-pack as woman of the year.
