Kris Jenner shed tears after she and the family learned that ex-husband Bruce Jenner identified as a transgender woman, telling daughter Kim on camera a bit of what’s been going through her mind.

“I have these memories of this life, and I feel sometimes like it didn’t exist,” the 59-year-old Kardashian matriarch said in a clip from an upcoming two-part TV special that will showcase her and her kids’ reactions to Bruce Jenner’s news.

In the clip, Kim Kardashian tells her mom, “He has to deal with this for his entire life of waking up and feeling like, ‘Whoa, this isn’t my body. This doesn’t feel comfortable. That’s the only way I can kind of imagine it. And you really have to like, let go.”

According to Bruce Jenner’s interview with Diane Sawyer, in which the 65-year-old talked about his gender identity, Kris Jenner knew early on about his confusion, but he said he “downplayed it” and that his third wife “didn’t say much about it” after their initial discussion. The former Olympian said he had to bring up the gender issue because when he met her, he’d been on hormones for five years and his body had visible changes.

During the interview, he spoke highly of her and suggested that if his transition from male to female hadn’t been such a big issue for her, they might still be together.

The two, who married in April 1991, just a month after her divorce from the late Robert Kardashian was finalized, had quite the life together as she became his manager, revitalized his career as a public speaker and personality and then developed “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” which premiered in 2007 and put the whole family’s daily lives into the spotlight.

The Jenners separated in June 2013, and their divorce was finalized this past March.

Bruce Jenner told Sawyer that he’s been on hormones for about a year and a half. The interview was taped a few weeks before it aired April 24.

Kris Jenner didn’t comment during the special “20/20” episode, but tweeted after it aired, “Not only was I able to call him my husband for 25 years and father of my children, I am now able to call him my hero.”
