Kristen Bell’s baby bond wasn’t there immediately, she admits

Kristen Bell’s future baby bond had her a bit nervous while she was pregnant with daughter Lincoln — sure, a baby was cool and all, but would she love the little one as much as she loved her dogs?

She shared her feelings at the time with now-husband Dax Shepard, and more recently with Flare, telling the magazine in its December issue, “I kept saying to him in all sincerity during my pregnancy, ‘I just don’t know how I’m going to like her as much as I like the dogs.’”

She was serious, she said, because she really — like, profanity-producing really — loves Lola, a corgi-chow mix, and Mr. Shakes, a corgi-Chihuahua. Not to mention her late Lab, Sadie, whom she rescued while volunteering at a Rancho Santa Fe shelter post-Hurricane Katrina; she lost Sadie last year at age 17.

“I love people the more I know them, and I didn’t know her. It could’ve been a water bottle in my belly, that’s about how connected I felt to her during my pregnancy,” said the “Veronica Mars” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” actress, 33, who appears next in the animated film “Frozen,” out Nov. 27.

The new mom, who opted for an epidural at the last minute during delivery, said the maternal instinct kicked in about 24 hours after Lincoln was born: “My hormones reset, and they reprogrammed my feelings about her.” Now Bell feels fiercely protective of her baby’s privacy, as she is of her day-to-day relationship with her husband, despite any back-and-forth they might share occasionally on Twitter.

“I would really not like to see the aftermath of the first person who tries to take a picture of Lincoln,” she told the mag. “There are going to be a lot of stitches.”
