First look at X-Men’s new giant blue villain, Apocalypse

Share

Entertainment Weekly just unleashed the first official look at "X-Men: Apocalypse's" new big bad, Apocalypse. For a thousand-year-old blue mutant, that's probably the least ridiculous version we're going to get. But he still looks truly outrageous.

Oscar Isaac, who plays him, said at the Fox panel for San Diego Comic-Con that Apocalypse is "like a cult leader." And that "he has so many powers, but the biggest one may be the power of persuasion. He sees what people need and want and he exploits it."

Apocalypse was one of the very first mutants, and therefore is quite old. Our first glimpse of this bad guy was a surprise, tucked away in the end of "X-Men: Days of Future Past." There we saw a young lad effortlessly building the pyramids in ancient Egypt while a crowd of onlookers worshiped his power -- a great introduction to the tyrant mentality that will no doubt be on display in "X-Men: Apocalypse."

Also in the new art is mutant Psylocke (played by Olivia Munn) and a younger Storm (Alexandra Shipp) who both appear to be pretty chummy with the purple/blue god.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is currently filming in Montreal, and will hit theaters May 27, 2016. For more information check out the new issue of Entertainment Weekly.
