Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine for one last time in “Logan,” and the film’s trailer goes all out to awaken the full spectrum of your Wolverine feelings.

Set to Johnny Cash’s cover of Nine Inch Nail’s “Hurt,” this first footage of the third stand-alone Wolverine film shows the superhero in a way you’ve never seen: old and scarred. And watching an aged Logan who apparently has lost his healing factor is just the first reveal of the trailer.

For the record:

10:18 a.m. Aug. 18, 2019An earlier version of this article identified the actress in the trailer as Sienna Novikov. The actress is Dafne Keen.

“Charles, the world is not the same as it was,” Logan says. “Mutants. They’re gone now.”

Charles, of course, is Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier. Professor X is also much older in this future, and while the exact reasons are not clear, this future is X-Men-less.

Perhaps one of the most significant moments in the trailer is Logan’s meeting a mysterious young girl played by Dafne Keen. While she is not named in the trailer, Professor X does tell Logan, “She’s like you. Very much like you.”

Could this young girl be X-23? In the comics, X-23, or Laura Kinney, is a female clone of Wolverine. Like Wolverine, she has healing powers as well as superhuman strength and senses. And yes, she does also have her own retractable adamantium claws and even inherited the Wolverine mantle in the comic book series “All-New Wolverine.”

This first trailer doesn’t give a definitive answer, but fans do get a look at Boyd Holbrook’s villain, Donald Pierce.

“Logan” is scheduled to hit theaters March 3.
