Jane Lynch’s delivery

What’s funny about Jane Lunch, says Carol Burnett in the foreword to Lynch’s autobiography, “Happy Accidents,” “is her ‘take’ on any character she’s playing. Here, Lynch offers some insights into some of the funnier lines she’s gotten to deliver.

As Sue Sylvester on “Glee”: “You know, for me, trophys are like herpes. You can try to get rid of ‘em, but they just keep coming.”

“That’s certainly not my opinion,” Lynch says. “But Sue prides herself on winning awards, and she wants everyone to think it’s easy for her.”

As Sylvester, speaking to Will Shuester (Matt Morrison): “Right now, you’ve got enough product in your hair to season a wok.”

Executive producer “Ryan Murphy has no hair to speak of, and so he’s fascinated by Matt’s hair. He loves it. He’s jealous of it. He has a whole relationship with it. So they like to hand all that over to Sue and give her an obsession with Matt’s hair.”

In the movie “Role Models”: “I’ve been to prison. Oh, I have. A prison of drugs, alcohol and sick thoughts.”

Director “David Wain wrote that monologue. It goes to insane places. The ‘sick thoughts’ was my addition; I will claim that.”

And the key to pulling off outlandish lines? “Delivering them with conviction. You absolutely have to do that.”
