Quick Takes: Adam Sandler beats Justin Bieber on Valentine’s Day

Share

Justin Bieber may have won over a bevy of teen girls last weekend, but when it came to the most important date night of the year, audiences fell for Adam Sandler.

The comedian’s romantic comedy “Just Go With It” brought in $6 million at the box office on Valentine’s Day, down only 22% from its Sunday tally of $7.8 million, according to estimates from distributor Sony Pictures.

The last time Valentine’s Day fell on a Monday was 2005, when Sony’s Will Smith romantic comedy “Hitch” performed even better, taking in $7.5 million after its $43.1-million-opening weekend.

Billy Ray Cyrus blames TV show

Billy Ray Cyrus says the Disney TV show “Hannah Montana” destroyed his family, causing his divorce and sending daughter Miley Cyrus spinning out of control.

In a December interview published in the Feb. 22 issue of GQ Magazine, Cyrus said he wished the show that launched his daughter to pop stardom had never happened.

“I hate to say it, but yes, I do. Yeah. I’d take it back in a second,” Cyrus said. “For my family to be here and just be everybody OK, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah. I’d erase it all in a second if I could.”

Cyrus and his wife, Tish, filed for divorce in October. They have three children together — Miley is the oldest — and two from Tish’s previous marriage.

Watson, their IBM supercomputer nemesis, emerged from the Final Jeopardy round with $35,734.

The trio will return on Wednesday, when their second game is aired. The bouts were taped at the IBM research center in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., last month.

Rooney granted

restraining order

A judge has approved Mickey Rooney’s request for a temporary restraining order from his stepson, who is accused in court filings of withholding food and medicine from the 90-year-old veteran actor and meddling in his personal finances.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Reva Goetz approved the stay-away order on Monday after attorneys for Rooney sought protection for him, claiming he lives in fear of stepson Chris Aber.

The order requires Aber to stay 100 yards away from Rooney until a hearing on Feb. 24, when the restraining order may be extended.
