ART

Raymond Pettibon For “Desire in Pursuyt of the Whole” — the artist’s ninth solo exhibition at Regen Projects — he reaches into the cultural grab bag for imagery that offers plenty in the way of pop subtext, political baggage, art/kitsch tension and an off-kilter sense of humor. This heady mix, colliding with phrases and text snippets culled from a variety of sources, makes for enigmatic and pleasantly sensory-overloading works. Regen Projects, 633 N. Almont Drive, L.A. Free. (310) 276-5424. https://www.regenprojects.com.

FAMILY

Pumpkin Launch Bring a lawn chair and watch as teams compete to see which can catapult a pumpkin the farthest at the Discovery Science Center’s annual event. Participants can use trebuchets and other creative hurling devices to sling pumpkins at targets 300 feet away. If you’re not up for the shootout, enter a pre-carved pumpkin in the pumpkin-carving contest or take in the other family-friendly activities. Cal State Fullerton, 800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Free. (714) 542-2823. https://www.discoverycube.org.

MUSIC

Chris Brown Brown has gone from a charming, fleet-footed newcomer to scorned domestic abuser and now seems to have returned to pop-rap’s forefront with several cocky, sonically demanding singles like “Look at Me Now” and “Deuces.” Here he brings T-Pain and Tyga along for a headlining tour. Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, 8808 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine. 7 p.m. $10-$144.75. livenation.com.
