PGA Tour releases 2012 schedule
The PGA Tour released its 2012 schedule Wednesday, and it is one that has a few tweaks, including holding the final round of its season-opening tournament in Hawaii on a Monday — Jan. 9, the same day as the Bowl Championship Series national title game.
The tour’s West Coast swing follows a schedule similar to those from past years.
The tour arrives in California for the Humana Challenge (formerly the Bob Hope Classic), from Jan. 19 to 22 at La Quinta. The Humana pro-am will have a new format, with pros playing four rounds instead of the five that was the custom in the Bob Hope Classic.
The tour moves to San Diego for the Farmers Insurance Open, Jan. 26-29 at Torrey Pines’ North and South courses. After a stop in Scottsdale, Ariz., the tour goes to Pebble Beach for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Feb. 9-12.
Riviera County Club in Pacific Palisades hosts the Northern Trust Open Feb. 16-19. Australian Aaron Baddeley won at Riviera this year.
The biggest golf tournament in California will be the U.S. Open, June 14-17 at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. This will be the fifth time the U.S. Open has been played on the Olympic course.
The 2012 PGA Tour season ends at Walt Disney World in Florida on Nov. 8-11.
