After ‘Timothy Green,’ Jennifer Garner is ready for action again

Jennifer Garner rose to fame playing a hard-edged CIA agent on the television show “Alias,” but in recent years, she’s gravitated toward less action-heavy roles.

From “Juno” to her upcoming movie, “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” the actress has showed off a softer side of herself on the big screen. In “Timothy Green,” which hits theaters Aug. 15, she plays a wife struggling with infertility issues who has a child magically sprout from her backyard.

In real life, of course, Garner is a mother of three with husband Ben Affleck. Even though she’s well-versed in diaper duty and preschool pickups, the actress says she’s ready to move away from more maternal parts.

“Do I think there will be a return to the action? I hope so,” the 40-year-old said at the premiere of “Timothy Green” in Hollywood on Monday, where the red carpet outside the El Capitan was decorated with green turf and faux trees. “I was working out with my trainer this morning and she’s trained me for 12 years and she said, ‘I think it’s time. I think we need to put some pleather on.’”

Would she be willing to don said pleather for a movie version of “Alias”?

“Wouldn’t that be fun?” she said with a smile. “I think J.J. [Abrams, the show’s creator] is pretty busy.”

While Garner has walked down her fair share of press lines, the young star of “Timothy Green,” 12-year-old CJ Adams — was wide-eyed as he faced the media for the first time. On set, the actor said, working with Garner and Joel Edgerton, who plays his father, calmed his nerves.

“Jennifer is probably the sweetest person out there — and Joel. And if you ever need any lessons, just walk right over to their house,” said Adams, adding that he eventually would like to play a superhero like Iron Man or Captain America.

So how are his friends back in Rhode Island reacting to Adams’ newfound celebrity status?

“Most of them are like, ‘Whoa, that’s cool, man!’ They can just tell their friends that they know me and I’m their best friend.”
